Whitecurrants

With their golden yellow transluscent berries Whitecurrants are radient on the plant, their seeds clearly evident. However the seedy character puts some people off when it comes to eating this fruit fresh, which is a shame because it has a good flavour with a slight bite. The berries are high in pectin and their juice can be added to other fruit to aid the seting of jams and jellies. They are not grown commercially and there are a limited number of cultivars available.

White Versailles is probably the most widely available of the whitecurrants, typically fruiting in early July producing medium length strigs from a strong, vigouorous upright heavy cropping bush.

Whitecurrant White Versailles plants are available from Fruitscape between November and March for 2012/13 planting season as 3 year old, bare rooted bush plants priced at £6.95 including postage and packing to a mainland UK address
